Special request / New for 2012

This will probably be pointless, but here goes...

If you want to download any of this amazing music, please take a moment to post a comment on why you like that song, what it means to you, some trivia about it... whatever. And don't be anonymous either. If you haven't got a Google ID then use the Name/URL option and put in your facebook or just a dummy URL. Help us keep this music alive and don't just download and take without giving back.

Show the artists some love and get involved, good people!

Oh, and d'ya like the new look?

Peace & Luvizm.

Mickey & Kymba

A big THANK YOU to all who do take the time to join in. It really does mean a lot to us. Shout outs to active members such as Nitro, Mark S, Sasha, Frank Black aka Windowlicker, Tosh, DJ Bounce, the one Jaybilla, Seth J, BadBoySoul, and our boys from Brasil José Manuel aka Alifunk & DJ Larry (are you two still out there? We miss you guys!) and others. Your contributions to the site make all our  time & effort ripping the CDs & vinyl, scanning all the artwork and writing the reviews worthwhile.

PS - Got LOTS of really nice releases coming on here over the next few weeks. I think you're gonna love it. I can also make lossless rips of any of my posts if you ask nicely.

PPS - Have you got CD Singles or 12"s that belong on here, and can you scan the artwork? Don't be shy of posting a link for us.

  1. The new layout is very pleasant to look at. Very excited to see what you all have in store for us listeners!

Thank you for taking time to share these great tracks--they are so far ahead of their time, it's a shame that they've been completely overshadowed by this new generation of glitzy, over-produced soul songs.

  2. Thanks so much for taking the time out to comment and give feedback, Seth.

We're not looking for thanks from people - the artists deserve the thanks, we're just archiving their work, but it's nice to know people love these songs as we do. A lot of people seem to come on, DL something, and log straight off without giving any time saying why they love the song, and that sucks!

One of Mick's posts, looking at the stats, had well over a thousand page views, several hundred downloads... and ZERO comments.

It's just the way of the internet, I guess, but it's small wonder he got tired of putting the work in. I'm really glad he's back, though.

Anyway, yes, lots of new (well, old, really) stuff to come: Dodge City Productions, Young Disciples, Urban Species, Lots of Talkin Loud, The Sindecut, early Jamiroquai... I could go on and on, and that's just from me. Who knows what gems Mick will drop on us? :)

Anyway, once again, cheers our Seth! :)

  3. Such a good feeling to see the site back. I guess I wasn't thinking a rebirth was possible, BUT you make it happen.

Can't wait for all this new old stuff.

  6. This is my absolute favourite blog - it's so hard to find UK soul/R&B from the 90s, especially the mixes from the CD singles. Thanks for all your work in putting the blog together, and the great music selections!

  7. Huge respect for all involved with this site, not only some great tunes but some excellent background info and trivia on the artists.

Please take the time to check out Tower Block Radio where ex-pirate Dj's play live sets several times a week; many of these tracks and other gems are played on my show.

    1. Ola JB! Consider TBR officially endorsed by Soul Vendor. I'm already loving that you played Moments in Lust by Marky/XRS.

Also, big up Snowman for me. He helped me out tracking down Courtney Buchanon's brilliant 'R U Conscious' a few years back via Youchoob. He won't remember, but I've never forgotten.

  9. Wanted to say thank you - Only just found this site - A quick scan of this site has reminded me of 80's & 90's soul tunes that had been loved and lost (lost my whole collection of vinyls, CDs & back up HDD!!) but this site has put a smile on my face and also given some great info on artists that I didn't know. Thank you for the share - I hope that I can reciprocate in some way.

    1. Oh no!!! Losing everything? That's a truly nightmare scenario. I hope we can help you fill in some gaps in the collection.

Thanks for the offer too, we'll have to compare notes.

    2. Thank you it was a nightmare situation - luckily I had a lot of music recorded on cassettes (not ideal but better than nothing) and then there was The Record & Tape Exchange in Notting Hill, Shephertd Bush & Islington (which use to be great), and a Exchange shop in Berwick Street.

Years later I found music blogs (amazing information & fantastic music that I had & loads that I had missed!! - they also introduced me to artists that I had missed) Thank god there are people that CARE.

But Can you believe it I had HDDs die a second and a third time!! (they don't make like they use to). After the 3rd time I got a bit smarter and now make sure I have 3 backups of music files and have been rebuilding since.

    1. Good to have you on board Alexandre. What's the scene like over there in Brazil, and what's the word on your homegrown soul artists? I am also a big drum & bass fan, so I know many Brasilian artists via that; DJ Marky, Jorge Ben e Toquinho, Max De Castro, Fernanda Porto... but I don't know any any Brasilian soul artists.
