Kym says: It was Lynden's birthday last week and I should have posted this back then so I'm a week late. Sorry Lynden!

Mick originally posted up CD2 back in the day so I am adding both that and CD1 in 320.

Highlight of Disc 1 for me are the Def Squad remixes, in particular the Def Squad No.2 Remix. Erick Sermon is the Daddy!

Back over to Mickey...

Mick says: Another piece from the 'LDH collection', this is CD2 (EMI Records 7243 8 85245 2) from the UK release of Do I Qualify? supplied once again by Alifunk. Top Man!

The prize on this particular release is the exclusive Untouchables Remix of Sexy Cinderella featuring Rha Goddess. We also get the DARC Extended Remix of Do I Qualify? in glorious digital and, as if that wasn't enough, this includes The Jimmy Lee Story which includes girl-on-girl action. OK, sorry, I'm a sad bugger?

Lynden David Hall - Crescent Moon (1998)

Cooltempo Records CDCOOL 333

Lynden-David-Hall-Crescent-Moon-Cover

Kym says: This is another 320 re-up of a Mick original post from back in the day. New rips, fresh scans. Enjoy.
Lynden David Hall, singer, songwriter and instrumentalist: Born in Wandsworth, South London, 7 May 1974; married; died London 14 February 2006. He won the 'Best Newcomer' accolade at the 1998 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards. Hall appeared in the hit film Love Actually in 2003, where he sang at the wedding of the characters played by Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The 1997 debut album Medicine 4 My Pain made an unprecedented impact on the discerning tastes of the Brit-Soul fraternity being one of the earlier works to get tagged Neo Soul.

Lynden-David-Hall-Crescent-Moon-OFC

Lynden helped pioneer a domestic live arena for British R&B acts, his 1998 highly-publicised headlining shows in Johannesburg and Durban additionally broke interesting new international ground for a contemporary UK soul act. In 1999, he was the first U.K. performer ever voted "Best Male Artist" by the readers of Britain's Blues & Soul magazine. Medicine For My Pain, as well as the singles Do I Qualify and Sexy Cinderella, had an instant appeal to soul fans in the UK and elsewhere, but it was not until his work got the remix treatment that he got his major breakthrough. Hall was, without doubt, the undisputed King of contemporary UK soul. Crescent Moon was the third single from the album, remixed for 1998 by Dodge for Inside (UK) and Cutfather & Joe (US)

Kym's take: I dig the Album Version, St Anne's Jamdown and the 12" Extended Disco Mix. Ain't no disco about that one though!

Courtney Pine featuring Lynden David Hall - Lady Day (& John Coltrane) - (2000)

2000 - Universal Jazz ‎– 587 902-2, Blue Thumb Records ‎– 587 902-2
Courtney-Pine-Lynden-David-Hall-Lady-Day-John-Coltrane-cover

Darling of the British jazz scene (and beyond) Mr Courney Pine CBE is a multi-instrumentalist, playing the saxophone (and bwoy does he make that sax sing), flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and keyboards.

Establishing the influential UK band The Jazz Warriors in 1985, Courtney released the first of many solo albums the following year.

Pine was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2000, and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours for services to jazz music. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Westminster on 6 December 2004. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Southampton on 15 July 2010.

So Courtney dropped this fine cover of the Gill Scott Heron classic track back in 2000, featuring our beloved and greatly missed Lynden David Hall on vocals. What a track it turned out to be - a jazz/pseudo Drum & Bass hybrid that is sure to get you grooving.

Courtney is such an underrated artist and backed up with Lynden's silky vocals it's a hell of a combination.

However, within just six short years of this release Lynden would no longer be with us and the UK music scene would be a poorer, less soulful place.

With no disrespect in any way meant to the mighty Courtney Pine, it is our man Dodge who really brings this track to life with his Soul Inside remix, bringing a more R&B/street soul vibe to the cut and providing the definitive version

Dodge, Soul Vendor salutes you (and not for the first time either)!

Enjoy!

Lynden David Hall ‎– Sexy Cinderella (1997)

Cooltempo ‎– CDCOOL 328
Lynden-David-Hall-Sexy-Cinderella-front

Mickey has already posted the remix CD here ages ago (supplied by AliFunk) and re-upped in 320 by yours truly.

However, this is the original release which I prefer, barring the seriosuly dope Perfect Love Song with Black Twang. You need to go get that one, peeps.

Lynden-David-Hall-Sexy-Cinderella-OFC

The original Neo Soul album flavour does it for me. I don't need any other version. This also contains three variants on the Cosmack mix which is nice enough, better than the C&J versions, but I've already nailed my colours to this mast. Original all the way.

I still get very sad whenever I think about our lost soul man. I've said before on here we are far poorer in the UK for never getting to hear what other music he had inside him.

I miss you, Lynden. xxx

Lynden David Hall - Sexy Cinderella (Remixes) (1999)

EMI Records 7243 886588 2 9

Lynden-David-Hall-Sexy-Cinderella-remix-front

Kymba's note: I'm reupping this in 320kbps. For the record, I wasn't feeling the C&J Mix at all and much prefer the organic neo soul vibes of the original mix, for me, like Mick, it's all about the Perfect Love Song version with Blak Twang - an artist I've loved since Dettwork Southeast. The Original of Perfect Love Song featured on the LP 19 Long Time wasn't one of his finest cuts, but spliced with the DNA of Sexy Cinderella it becomes one of his best. Essential stuff. x

The text below is Mick's original write-up.

This is another fine addition provided by Alifunk, the 1999 re-release of Sexy Cinderella. The C&J Remix supplied by Cutfather and Joe for XL Talent. There is also the very competent Live Acoustic Version of Medicine 4 My Pain recorded at Café De Paris by BBC2 for their 'Soul Night' programme. It's hard to work out where the label were coming from with this release cos there are three random tracks with no particular purpose other than to gain some extra mileage off the back of Lynden's '98 Mobo award.

Lynden-David-Hall-Sexy-Cinderella-remix-OFC

Whatever the reason, it's a good release because it features Perfect Love Song by Black Twang featuring Eldee. Tony Olabode a.k.a Tony Rotten a.k.a. Blak Twang is an award winning hip hop heavyweight, who has released two albums and has worked with artists such as Beverley Knight. In this instance he has built his own song around the chorus and groove of Sexy Cinderella. Eldee, sorry, LD is obviously Lynden who supplies the vocals for the chorus. Don't go thinking that The Twang has simply stolen Lynden's groove though because the video clearly shows them working together. The last few seconds show them fooling about together so it's legit.

Lynden David Hall - Forgive Me (UK CD1 & CD2) - (2000)

"This one's fresh, this one's a brand new (brand new) check the mic a one-two..."

Following on from our boy José Manuel aka Alifunk, sharing the Promo CD for "Forgive Me" with us and my subsequent rip of the 12", I present to you here the official two CD release.

Lynden_David_Hall_Forgive_Me_CD_1_OFC

CD 1 is acceptable enough and a contains a radio edit of the D-influence Mix as well as the album version, alongside a non album track Love U I Do. Not bad at all but it gets better.

Lynden_David_Hall_Forgive_Me_CD_2_OFC

Where this really comes to life is CD 2. We kick off with the un-edited full majesty of the D-Influence remix and it is SMOKIN'! Check out that gorgeous intro. Mmmm!

Next up, we have the excellent Ignorants Club Mix, which is a full length version of their mix on the promo CD supplied by Alifunk - I really dig this mix, the original is straight up soul but this one is for the Hiphop/R&B heads, and really hits the spot. Truly a headnodder.

Lastly, the piece de resistance here are the two mixes by Artful Dodger. They supply both a full Vocal remix and a Dark Dub, the latter of which was MASSIVE back in the day, and still sounds great.
I know it's blasphemy, but I think prefer this to the full vocal mix. I remember shaking my booty in the clubs to this when it came out, and it would absolutely destroy dance-floors. An true killer UK garage track.

I know garage won't be everyone's tastes, so if they ain't your particular cup of tea, between the original soul flava, and the other three there will be something here for us all. There's not a bad version of this track.

This post is dedicated to the memory of our very own Lynden David Hall, who we all miss terribly, and with utmost respect to his family. Lynden had all the talent in the world and should have blown up huge. He was taken from us us far too soon yet leaves a legacy of some amazing music. I wonder what great songs we would have had if he was still with us. We will never know now.

Peace and Love.

Lynden David Hall - Forgive Me (UK 12") - (2000)

EMI Records/Cooltempo, 12COOL346
"This one's fresh, this one's a brand new (brand new) check the mic a one-two..."
To continue from the post yesterday, kindly supplied by our very own José Manuel aka Alifunk, of the Promo CD for "Forgive Me", here's a rip of the "Forgive Me" 12" - complete with extended mixes.
I'll keep this short, as Mick posted all about it on the previous post.
The first mix is Artful Dodger's excellent Dark Dub - I know it's probably blasphemy, but I prefer this to their full vocal mix, I remember shaking my booty in the clubs to this when it came out, and it would absolutely destroy dance-floors. An absolute killer dance track.
Secondly, we have the excellent Ignorants Club Mix, which is an extended version of their mix on the promo CD - I really like this mix, like the Artful Dodger Dark Dub, which caters for the dancefloor massive, this one is for the Hiphop/R&B heads, and really hits the spot.
Finally, catering for the soul lovers, there is the album mix, and the full majesty of the D-Influence remix - check out that gorgeous intro.
Before I go, and I think I speak for Mickey as well here, I would like to big up José and DJ Larry for getting involved and helping to share the music - this post is dedicated to you boys, as well as to the memory of Lynden, who we all miss terribly.
- Kymba :)

PS - I've placed both the resized artwork for the Soul Vendor site, as well as the full-size scans, in the .ZIP file. Also, as this is a vinyl rip, there may be a few crackles and a bit of "hum" - as usual, I've kept the original .WAV files of the vinyl rip, so if anyone wants them to remove the vinyl noises, just holler and I can arrange to send them

Lynden David Hall - Do I Qualify 1998

Cooltempo Records 12COOL 331

The ever popular Lynden David Hall makes another appearance, thanks to José Manuel who has kindly supplied, not only the audio but, all the artwork and credits. Respect!

Do I Qualify, the first single release from Medicine 4 My Pain (I believe?) remixed here by Karl "K-Gee" Gordon to fine effect. The Album Mix is included along with Def Squads Number 2 Mix but my favourite is the ever-so-soulful, DARC Extended Mix. Thanks for your hard work José.

Lynden David Hall - Sexy Cinderella 1997

Cooltempo Records CDCOOL 328

The 1997 debut album Medicine 4 My Pain by Wandsworth-born singer/song-writer Lynden David Hall made an unprecedented impact on the discerning tastes of the Brit-Soul fraternity. At the time of completing that album he was still young, having just signed his first record deal at just 21. Sexy Cinderella (featuring Me'shell Ndegeocello on Bass) was the first single release, remixed for the dancefloor by CJ Mackintosh but including the superb album version.

In October 2003, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma; he died on 14 February 2006, at the age of 31
