The Chimes - The Chimes 1990

CBS Records 466481-1

When The Chimes released 1-2-3, I feared the worst. I suspected another Pop/Soul band to lower the tone of British Dance music. Heaven was a good quality, stronger song but it wasn't until I heard an album track that I realised there was something special here.

It was Stronger Together that convinced me that I needed to buy this album and what a great decision that was. Every track on the album is strong with 1-2-3 being (IMHO) the weakest of the collection. The Chimes managed to do for I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, what Mica Paris would later do for One. U2 ballads seem to translate well to soul arrangements. This is an album that would be well worth having on CD if it's been released?

Worth mentioning here that Pauline Henry was the voice of The Chimes but the main man was Michael Peden, who also produced YoYo Honey.

Atmosfear - Invasion EP 1981

Elite Music DAZZ 8

The Invasion EP features a female vocal (uncredited) on an uncredited track.
The B-Side is cut into three tracks and although tracks 2 & 3 are joined together, track 2 seems to be a different track. A damn fine track, mind!
(Any info appreciated?)

Atmosfear - Motivation/Extract 1980

Elite Music DAZZ 2

Brand new Jazz Funk for 1980, hot on the heels of their success with Dancing In Outer Space, Atmosfear begin to release their work on the Elite Records label. DAZZ 1 is an Elite release for Dancing In Outer Space (originally on MCA) and DAZZ 2 is a double header....

Sure, it's not a great deal different from ...Space but that's no heartbreak?

Rick Clarke & Emma - I Really Wanna Be With You 1987

RCA Records PT 41332

This little beauty is very appropriately titled the Summer Soul Mix and it surely is. Try as I might, I cannot get a surname for the lovely Emma although I do know she released a solo single. She is assumed by some to be Emma Haywoode but I don't think so? I would imagine that many sales were lost for this release because of the Stock, Aitken & Waterman connection. PWL struck fear into the hearts of many serious soul and dance enthusiasts. Say what you like Pete, it was usually warranted. Poor ol' Phil Harding, as you will hear, he done a smashing job on this track but you can't work for PWL and retain your credibility.

Rick Clarke - Looking Out For You 1987

RCA Records PT 41498

Rick Clarke released an album in 1985 called Times Keep Movin' On which came out on Raven Records. I've never seen or heard it mind but I know he cut a duet with Emma. It's quite strange, a guy so highly thought of in 80's UK, joined up with Soul II Soul in the 90's and yet, no info. I did hear that he's still in the music industry mind, studio production apparently?

Bryan 'Chuck' New on production of Looking Out For You but it's not about that. This was all about Perfect Lady, a quality B-Side from Rick Clarke. Classic Soul from 1987.
